Why Lego is an INCREDIBLE tool to develop kids' maths skills
We love Lego here at MagicMum – well, when we’re not stepping on it in our bare feet that is! It keeps the kids entertained, it’s creative and it’s also a great tool for budding engineers!
But have you considered using Lego to teach your child maths?
Numbers on a page or in our child’s head are one thing, but seeing the cause and effect of, for example, multiplication and division in practical terms, helps them understand the why.
Lego is brilliant for helping children understand and solve maths problems. The pieces divide into each other, breaking up towers shows ratios and averages simply, and the many different sized pieces are perfect to teach fractions.
Teacher Alycia Zimmerman shows us how:
Part-Part-Total
Fractions
Multiplication and Division
Square numbers
Mean, Median, Mode, and Range
Brilliant. And it makes it clearer in our heads too – we've been out of the game a little too long so this is a fantastic way for us mums to simply explain maths problems to our kids! What do you think mums? Will you try it out? Or have you been doing this already?
