‘What’s wrong with your belly?’ Mum’s response to son’s question is just too perfect
Mum-of-three, Hayley Garnett gave birth to her twins last year, but just seven days later her son asked what was wrong with her belly.
Being mums, we all know how much pregnancy changes you – both mentally and physically – and while some find it easy to accept the changes, for a lot of us, it can take a bit of getting used to.
And that is exactly why we love Hayley's inspirational response when her son, Archer, quizzed her about her stomach.
Taking to Instagram, the mum uploaded a picture of her holding her twin girls, her stomach bared for all to see. Under the photo, Hayley wrote:
“This morning Archer asked me what’s wrong with my belly and I told him that all of my babies leave marks on my belly so I never forget for a second that I grew them in my body all on my own and that they exist Earth side with me now.
Continuing, the mum beautifully admitted that while she may or may not be confident having "these marks", she believes they are "a testament to the miracles [her] body has made."
And not surprisingly, many were quick to thank the mum for her honest post, with one commenter admitting that she has struggled with her own body images since giving birth.
"I just came across your account by accident, and I can’t even tell you how much this photo and caption mean to me. I have struggled with accepting my stretch marks ever since they first began to appear on my body during pregnancy," they wrote.
"I would see all these other moms posting pictures of their bellies without a mark on them, and I was instantly flooded with insecurity. Also, after having my girl, I noticed how there are no women with stretch marks featured anywhere in media or magazines or anything really.
"My heart was heavy for all the women before me who have been forced to believe now their bodies are 'sub-par' because of marks that were necessary for life to be brought forth. Thank you, thank you so much for sharing."
What an incredibly inspirational post – such simple words.
