We're crying: divorced parents make sweetest gesture to daughter
Devin Petit's parents divorced when she was ten, but they always put her first.
"My parents always maintained an amicable relationship and were really conscious of me and how I felt and always put me first," she told Buzzfeed. "Throughout my childhood they lived very close to each other and I spent near equal amount of time with both of them."
In the run up to her 21st birthday, her mum, Karen, wanted to do something special for Devin. She took her wedding ring to the jewellers her ex had purchased it from, and turned it into a necklace.
my mom gave me this necklace this morning as an early birthday gift. it’s made from the diamonds of her wedding band. she said although her marriage to my dad didn’t work out, they both agreed I was the best thing to come from it, which is why she wanted me to have it. pic.twitter.com/6Rz6yCUw2M

In an emotional tweet, Devin explained what her mum said while giving it to her:
"She said although her marriage to my dad didn't work out, they both agreed I was the best thing to come from it, which is why she wanted me to have it."
Can't. Deal.
"It was really such a thoughtful gesture to think of passing something like that on to me," Devin added.
The mum and daughter both said they were overwhelmed by emotions at the present.
"I think it represents successful co-parenting over the years and the love that both her dad and I have for her," Karen explained.
she’s genuinely the sweetest, and I’m so thankful to have parents like them. #softtweets

Now that's co-parenting done right.
Devin originally posted the photo to show her friends but was "shocked" at the amount of love it received online.
Karen was also surprised about how well her gift was received:
"Our young adults care more about family, tradition, and keepsakes than we’re led to believe. But, mostly, I’m glad Devin loves it!"
My mum didn't give me a necklace, but after her divorce she kept us fed, clothed, and we had a roof over our head. Couldn't ask for anything more, but this is just so damn sweet.

How lucky are you to have two loving parents who didn’t forget there was a time they were very much in love and clearly didn’t use you as a pawn when their relationship sadly broke down. Unless the break-up was due to violence, this is how all divorced parents should behave!
