Mum's Life

We're copying this letter one mum wrote to her kids and we think you should too

We scrub, we clean, we cook dinner, we make lunch and anything else you ask of us.

We're mothers, and that's just what we do.

But with lists longer than our arms we do like when people make things a little easier, you know, having a small hand along the way to speed the process up.

A perfect example of this would be when our kids clean their rooms – properly.

Amy Betters-Midtvedt felt this was a high priority for her as a mother, because like us she simply cannot do everything.

"Dear sweet offspring, let me be clear about one thing, I see that you are trying, I really do. But my word, I feel like making you all eye appointments after looking at the results of your last attempt at cleaning your rooms."

"I really shouldn’t have to remind you that I am going to check the corners, I figure you know I have eyes to see and that you understand items do not just turn invisible simply because you push them in the corner."

No matter what way her kids clean their rooms, Amy can still see their stuff, everywhere, including when it falls out the closet door.

"The middle of the floor is clean, true, but the pile of stuffed animals and papers and pencils and glitter and general garbage in every corner means that your room is not actually clean."

"We’ve been through this."

Mum knows that there is a really good chance when she enters bedrooms, the wardrobe will be unaccessible due to 'stuff' lying in front of it and don't even get her started on the bathrooms or the kitchen.

"If I open your closet doors and my life is in danger from an avalanche of toys and stinky socks, your room is not clean."

"If I walk into the kitchen and the dishes are done but there are crumbs everywhere and a tower of recycling by the sink and a dirty pot on the stove that I don’t want to wash either, the kitchen is not clean."

Explaining to her children that she does love and cherish them, Amy reveals to her littles they are fooling no one, and it is far from appreciated.

"No one appreciates your half-assery my dear ones. Get it done right the first time and I will look less like a crazy person with smoke coming out of my ears and you will not have to listen to this lecture every, single time it’s time to clean something."

And wouldn't THAT in itself be absolutely amazing mums? To know that you won't have to repeat the same cleaning foray every single day without fail.

We think we all need to share this information with our children – what do you think?
