'We will fight for them': 4 children are diagnosed with cancer each week in Ireland
There are approximately 220 newly diagnosed cases of childhood cancer every year in Ireland, which is roughly four new children each week.
Within this, 16 to 18 children need to travel overseas every year for specialist cancer treatment, in the hope of saving lives.
The Gavin Glynn Foundation keeps this hope alive; helping families seek international healthcare services like second opinions, taking care of logistics and finances associated with travelling to another country for specialist cancer treatment, and enabling children and their families to get the best possible treatment they can, globally.
The strength to keep fighting is something that exists inside all of us.
The Gavin Glynn Foundation was set up following the death of Gavin, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at 18 months old, last year. His parents, John and Jayne, vowed to never give up hope and help their son fight for his life.
That hope extended the length and breadth of the northern hemisphere as Gavin’s parents endured an emotional, financial and physical marathon to put a stop to their son’s illness.
The Gavin Glynn Foundation exists to facilitate others on the same journey. It goes to the ends of the earth to keep hope alive by facilitating other families in Ireland with the tools they need to seek international healthcare services.
To date, The Gavin Glynn Foundation has organised and covered the cost of 610 hotels stays, 390 flights, 564 car transfers and 22 apartment rentals. The foundation knows that journeys like these should never be taken by one family or one person alone – it should be taken by a network of people all over the world.
To help raise much-needed funds, the charity is asking people to strike their best superhero pose using #ToTheEndsOfTheEarth,

"The Gavin Glynn Foundation currently receives no government funding and we vitally need funds that will go directly to helping the families and their kids," John Glynn, Founder of The Gavin Glynn Foundation, said.
"We will fight for them, we will go to the ends of the earth to make sure no family has to endure what we went through with Gavin. Join is in making this happen, share your story and tag your friends. Together we can make a difference!
"It’s our job in Gavin’s memory to go to the ends of the earth for all of the kids fighting rare forms of cancer every day in Ireland."
