This pair met as cancer patients and now they're doing something amazing

This is a happy ending to what began as a sad story.

Twenty-five years ago, two sick children met when they were patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Joel Alsup was seven-years-old at the time when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and 10-year-old Lindsey Wilkerson was battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

And now, all these years later, the Tennessee couple have become man and wife.

To make the story even more amazing, the pair decided to tie the knot in the hospital where they first met.

“When I met this guy, when I was in treatment, I admired him,” Lindsey said.

“I looked up to him, I thought he was such an incredible person. We grew in our friendship over the years.”

Joel has since had his arm amputated before being declared cancer-free.

The couple lost touch when they headed off to college but they were brought back together again at St Jude's.

They both wound up working at the same hospital that saved their lives all those years ago.

Lindsay said that she recognised her now-husband immediately on the first day at work.

Joel said, "I was finally brave enough to tell her that I liked her, not only that but that I loved her.''

The newly married couple are an inspiration to people battling cancer – we wish them a lifetime of happiness together.
