This app is JUST what pregnant public transport users need
Not getting a seat on the bus is bad at the best of times… but it's MUCH worse for a pregnant woman!
In fact (not surprisingly), many mums-to-be are reluctant to use public transport during their pregnancies in case they are left standing – which, unfortunately, happens way too often.
But in fairness to fellow commuters, it’s not all down to people simply being rude… some are no doubt worried they’ll insult a woman by implying she’s pregnant when she’s not.
Yup, that’s happened.
Thankfully, however, a new app called Babee on Board will finally put an end to that ‘is she isn’t she?’ by allowing expectant mums send a notification requesting a seat.
Babee on Board consists of two communication apps, an alert which sends the message and a receiving app. The receiving app is free but users must pay a small fee to download the alert app.
The altruistic company behind the app, 10X even donate 100 percent of the profits from the app to a children's charity.
Chief executive Hew Leith explains that the fee ensures only those in genuine need of a seat would download it.
Unfortunately there are a couple of drawbacks: the app only works if other users have it installed, it's for iPhone only and relies on Bluetooth to work effectively underground. It doesn't need Wi-fi to work but it may drain your battery!
It's certainly a step in the right direction for pregnant women who are reliant on public transport.
Hopefully this will make getting out and about while pregnant slightly easier.
