This dad's uplifting mini-comics are exactly what we need right now
Toronto based, father of two and elementary school teacher, Chris Grady, loves drawing.
Five years ago he created online comic Lunarbaboon, a humorous take on all things parenting.
Grady told The Huffington Post, that he created the comics as a form of therapy for his anxiety.
“I needed a positive place to focus all my thoughts and found that when I was making comics I felt a little bit better,” he said. “After posting the comics on social media for a few months, I began getting messages from many people about how they connected to the comics and it gave them hope and strength as they went through their own dark times.”
As his following grew, Grady decided to use his comics as a force for good, tackling issues such as homophobia, sexism, racism and xenophobia amongst others.
“I think it is impossible not to be influenced by the world around you. There is a lot of bad things happening in the world, but there is also a lot of good,” he said. “I try to find the good or humorous in the difficult things that happen to us every day.”
Grady also credits his wife, and mother of his nine-year-old son and two-year-old daughter, as a massive influence on his work:
“I am very lucky to be married to a very smart, strong, opinionated person who is constantly fighting against injustice. A lot of what she and I talk about on a daily basis makes it into the comics.”
Grady is glad that his comics have been a point of positivity and hope for many of his followers: “People like knowing they aren't alone in life’s daily struggles”
As a father and a teacher, he hopes that these messages of kindness and tolerance will be passed on to the younger generation:
“Nobody is powerless in this world, as humans we have the ability to change another person’s day by what we put out," he says.
Funny, sweet and with a powerful message, these comics have it all.
