This 10-year-old girl is travelling 1,000km in memory of the ‘plastic whale’
Young Lilly Platt is doing something that many adults wouldn't even consider doing: getting involved in a massive beach clean-up in Norway.
The 10-year-old will travel from Holland to the Norwegian island of Sotra – a distance of over 1,000km – in order to take part in the Plastic Whale Coastal Clean-Up and Conference on April 25th.
This is why the Plastic Whale Heritage started because of this whale. He was the orginal plastic whale. To stop this from continuing to happen that's why I am going to go to Norway to help!

The young girl, who is the Youth Ambassador for the Plastic Pollution Coalition and a Child Ambassador for HOW Global, was moved to do something after a whale was found dead with more than 30 plastic bags in its stomach last year.
Lilly, along with a number of volunteers, will spend one day removing plastic from along the coastline and another taking part in a conference about tackling our ever-growing plastic problem.

Explaining why she has decided to take part in the clean-up, Lilly told Benjamin Steele from Good News Network: "I started picking up rubbish after seeing the effect that it had on wildlife."
"I knew that every piece I picked up, was one less piece that could harm a living creature."

The clean-up will be supported by the Norwegian government, who will be providing equipment to lift heavy waste items.
