'Their appearance matters': Barber gives out free haircuts and school supplies to 100 kids
Every child wants to look their best on their first day back at school.
And one Alabama barber is going to great lengths to make sure that this is the case.
Robert Banks, the manager at Perfect Line Barber Shop, decided to give out free haircuts and backpacks to kids in his community so they could look their best on their first day back.
Robert actually used money out of his own pockets to invest in this project.
He told WBRC, ''their appearance matters. The first day of school is the best day of school."
This isn't the first year that Robert has done this as he has organised the "Annual Back To School Support & Supplies" event at his shop in Ensley, Alabama.
"In this community, we have a lack of education, high crime rate, so these children are our future," Robert explained.
He just wants to give a little hope to the young people in his community.
"So if we can give to the children now, and let them see us giving back, when they get older, they'll give back. It'll be a cycle. It'll be a transformation."
Robert emphasised that it's about more than simply providing the school supplies and haircuts.
"Seeing the children smile out there playing, that makes my day right there. That's all I need to do.''
Bravo to Robert and all the kids he's helping – we wish them all the luck as they head back to school.
