The reason one mum compares motherhood to a sweet and sour dish is too relatable
Blogger, Tova Leigh, is a mum-of-three, who gives a full account of her day-to-day life as a mother.
However, she is frequently asked the same question over and over again about her motherhood musings.
People continuously question why she focuses on the negative side of parenting, highlighting the difficulties instead of championing the good.
"My answer is that when I was a first time mum, I really struggled. Motherhood didn't come naturally to me and nothing felt or looked like I thought it would, or like I had seen in books, magazines, […] or even just around me."
"It made me feel bad about myself. Like I was failing and like I was all alone."
But the first time Tova put pen to paper, she was astonished to realise she wasn't the only person who felt this way.
"Knowing that gave me comfort and made me stronger because I no longer felt guilty for not loving every single moment of being a mum. And this relief, in time, made me a better parent."
"The thing is, I adore my children more than life itself and I wouldn't change having them for anything in the world."
However, she still learned some hard lessons over the years, some which she never thought would be a part of her motherhood journey.
"Having children has been, by far, the hardest thing I have ever done in my whole life and I feel okay admitting that."
"The way I see it is that kids are a little bit like a sweet and sour dish; you kinda have to have the sourness or else it's just too sweet and makes you feel sick."
"Either way, you can't get enough because, despite the millions of calories, its just SO GOOD!"
And this mums, is exactly why you should never feel bad about speaking up on your true feelings, not everything in life is perfect, and not everything on your mothering journey will be perfect either – we're all there to help one another, the good the bad and the ugly.
