The reason a band aid had one mum emotional will make you hug your little ones tighter

Time flies; you wake up on Monday morning, you blink, it's Friday, but you don't feel you have achieved much.

But then again you're not taking into account the motherhood chores you go through each day, there is a reason that time is flying.

And while the clock ticks forward, little moments occur to remind us that our children are growing – growing quite fast too.

Texas mum, Quinn Kelly, found this out through an emotional episode with a box of plasters and her son's toe.

The mum-of-four was asked by her nine-year-old to source a band aid for his toe as a blister had raised it's pesky head before school.

Naturally enough, mum goes searching for a plaster, finding a coveted box of design filled band aids to soothe her boy's woes.

"As I begin digging for the perfect one, he peers into the tin with me."

Quinn's little man piped up to state that he wanted a plain plaster if possible, which left the mum-of-four feeling a little shocked.

"His sentence catches me off guard. My half drank coffee turns in my stomach. I turn and look at his face."

Quinn begins to question her son's choice, asking why he didn't want a design one, as they are the plasters which always made him feel better when he had a cut.

It is at this point her light bulb moment flashes, and her nine-year-old confirms what the mum is already thinking.

"Yeah, mum. Maybe when I was four I liked the designs," the youngster states.

And as he smiles with his full display of dimples, Quinn's mind flashes forward to a very special day.

"I couldn't help but smile and hug him. I guess you aren't as little as I still want you to be. But then right as my mind flashed forward to sending him off on his wedding day, I heard the exact words I needed."

Reminding mum he is still only nine, he declares: "Mum, will you wrap it around my toe? I still need your help with that part."

Quinn was transported into a whole new world, one where she realised her little boy was no longer so little, and he didn't need her for everything.

But, he still needed her and that was the main thing.

"He may be too old for characters, but he still needs me for the wrap. And I'll take it. So I carefully wrapped it as best I could. Kind of like a hug. With a band aid. On his sweet little toe."

"And the realisation that the characters are gone, but the need for the wrap is still there, wrapped my heart back with a hug too."

We need to appreciate these little moments for reminding us how quickly time can pass, as Quinn puts it – 'even the hardest are fleeting'.
