The fastest tortoise in the world is now a proud father
A hare is no match for this speedy tortoise.
Bertie was named the fastest tortoise in the world in 2014, reaching speeds of 0.28 meters per second.
The Guinness World Records holder has been enjoying his newfound fame, and now enjoys the retired life in a family adventure park called Adventure Valley in Brasside, UK.
The extraordinary tortoise has opted for his next adventure as world’s best father, welcoming his first baby into the world with his partner Shelly.
The two have history and have been dating since 2013. Shelly was very proud of Bertie when he won his title and appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, making his claim to fame.
And now, after years of trying, the couple have finally hatched a baby together.
The park announced the news on their Facebook page, gushing: “It’s so exciting! Over the weekend, Bertie, the fastest tortoise in the world, and his girlfriend Shelly had an adorable baby!
“We’re super excited to have a new member of the family and fingers crossed the newborn will soon be as speedy as dad!”
The 12-year-old leopard tortoise is already protective of his mini-me and dotingly looks after the new arrival day in and day out with Shelly.
The whole family can be seen at Adventure Valley in the VIP, luxury enclosure called Creature Corner.
The tortoises are extremely friendly and enjoy frequent opportunities to show off their brand new baby.
Park owners Marco and Janine Calzini have always had great confidence in Bertie and were thrilled when he set a tortoise speed record.
They advise all other Guinness World Record pursuers to never give up.
“Have confidence and self-belief. If you don’t manage it, there is always another day. Do your best.”
