Teacher's experiment with masks is the most heartbreaking thing you'll see today

As the old saying goes, 'you never know what goes on behind closed doors', and in this instance it could not be more true.

We have a tendency to keep things to ourselves, locking our feelings up on the inside and not speaking out, pretending we're fine.

Talking to a friend can lift the weight of the world off your shoulders, but do our children know this?

And how do they know who they can speak to?

Elle Deal, is a teacher in the Sunshine State who took the initiative so her students can discreetly relay their worries and fears.

But while the activity is extremely important, it did reveal some things which will break your heart.

Putting up faceless masks on the wall, Elle requested her children write something with the heading: "I wish my teacher would know…"

The kids ranging in age from nine to 10-years-old had answers which would make you extremely thankful for what you have in life.

"Kid 1: I wish my teacher would know, my dad is in jail and I haven't seen him in years."

"Kid 2: I wish my teacher would know, I don't always eat dinner because my mum works and I don't know how to work the stove."

"Kid 3: I wish my teacher would know, my sister sleeps in the same bed as me and sometimes she wets the bed and that's why I smell funny."

Another child revealed they don't always have trainers for gym class because they have to share one pair with their brother.

While another added: "I wish my teacher would know I like coming to school because it's quiet here, not like my house with all the yelling."

Elle commented: "We spend so much time talking and judging what we think we know, we need to ask more questions and spend more time listening."

"We also need to shift our mindset and see things from other people's perspective. Give more than we get. Live to serve and to help make a difference in others lives."

While we're so glad to hear that Elle is there for her students and making a difference, we're also saddened to realise that children too have fears like these.

Amazing work done by Elle – would you like teachers in your kids' school to do something similar?
