Students are bullied for dirty clothes until Principal has a brilliant idea
The Principal of West Side High School in New Jersey noticed something strange was going on at his school.
The Principal, Akbar Cook, saw that attendance was dropping every day and he didn't understand why.
The reason, he soon uncovered, was that many students were being harassed because their clothes were unclean.
Students would turn up with stains on their shirt or dirty trousers and others would make fun of them.
They even continued the harassment on social media by putting up pictures that they had taken of them.
Kudos to West Side HS Principal Akbar Cook 4 creating a learning environment in which students feel safe from bullying. Check out how a PSEG-sponsored purchase of washers & dryers enabled @CityofNewarkNJ kids 2 have clean clothes & access 2 #STEM education https://t.co/DiYFs9by3X

When Akbar realised this, he decided that when school started again, he was going to get a a free laundromat installed.
According to SunnySkyz, the 40-year-old said, "they were choosing to stay home rather than coming to school to be bullied or ridiculed.''
"We didn't know until we started making calls."
Akbar obtained $20,000 in funding from the PSEG Foundation, and this funding will go towards a converting a football locker room into a laundry room, fitted out with with five washing machines and five dryers.
We need more humans like this in our world

Social media was obviously delighted on hearing this great news.
The community started to donate dryer sheets and laundry detergent through the school's Amazon wishlist so students can do their laundry with no cost at all.
The laundry will be open after school every day between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
People were so happy with this development, saying, ''taking care of the youth and recognising their needs!!!'' followed by a ''good job!!'' gif and ''what an awesome Principal and school the @CityofNewarkNJ has – great program and one that should be setting an example across the country!! Keep up the great work and innovative ideas.''
Well done to Akbar – what lucky students they are at West Side High School!
