Someone made a replica of an iconic Greek statue out of CHEESE - and it’s huge
As mums, we are forever telling our children not to play with their food. However, if they created something like Prudence Staite's cheese masterpiece we'd be all for it!
Prudence was commissioned by Kilmeaden Cheese to create a stunning life-size replica of the historical Greek mythical ‘Discobolus’ statue, and it's truly a work of art!
Using 100 kilos of Kilmeaden Cheese, Prudence took great time and care to produce the iconic masterpiece, echoing the time and quality that goes into each and every block of Kilmeaden!
The sculpture ties in with the brand's promise of ‘We take away the rest and give you the best’, and, in fairness, it is pretty cool looking.
“I was very excited when I was asked by Kilmeaden Cheese to work with them to create a special sculpture," the international food sculpture said.
"The cheese was great to work with. It tasted amazing too so it was really hard not to nibble as I worked!”
The stunning objet d’art can be seen in the latest advertising campaign for Kilmeaden and you can watch behind the scenes footage of the creation of the unique cheese sculpture below.
“We’re very excited to unveil our recreation of the Greek Discus Thrower statue, made solely from Kilmeaden Mature Cheddar Cheese," Cara Millaney, Brand Manager at Glanbia Consumer Foods, said.
"The statue is visually dynamic and show-cases the time, care and craft that our expert cheese grader puts in to every single block of Kilmeaden cheddar, ensuring each is a mini-masterpiece in their own right.
"The statue was chiselled from one very large block of cheese, showing how we’ve ‘taken away the rest’ to ‘give you the best’, leaving us with this incredible showpiece.”
Kilmeaden Cheddar is made using only summer milk and is matured for up to ten months, giving it all the time it needs to develop its distinctive flavour and unique taste.
