“This isn’t something we set out to do — a lady came in 28 years ago who was past due and ate the salad, then felt contractions and went into labour. From there, the salad’s popularity just kept increasing,” café owner Carrie LaDou told TODAY.

Yes, for nearly three decades, thanks to this one lady, between five and 20 pregnant women turn up to order the salad daily.

So WHAT is in it?

Well, according to Carrie, the salad contains watercress, walnuts, pasteurised gorgonzola cheese and romaine lettuce – and a top secret dressing.

“We’re not saying it’s the dressing — we don’t know what it is,” Carrie says.

“I always tell them, ‘If you’re here to have a baby, you need to have the salad as it’s meant to be.”

Hmmm, whether it actually brings on labour or not, when baba is reluctant to come out, us mums will try just about anything!
