Sick kids can now drive to surgery in tiny electric cars in this hospital
A children's ward at a hospital has come up with a brilliant idea to help make the kids' experience happier.
They are using little electric toy cars so that the kids can drive themselves to surgery.
How cute is that?
At the hospital in Leicester, the children that are booked in for operations will get to drive the cars through the wards and corridors, to the theatre.
The first patient to use the cars was Sophia Fagan, who loved driving around in her red car.
She said, ''I was excited to drive it and I found it fun. I was scared about the operation and this made it much better. Hospitals are scary and I was very nervous.''
This is all thanks to Volvo, who stepped in when the nurses wanted to make a trip to the theatre less stressful for the little ones.
Sophia's parents Samantha and Chris are happy with how her operation went.
Samantha said, ''it made the whole experience a lot easier for both of us.''
She continued, ''I think I was more nervous than Sophia was. It was a nice experience and quite funny to watch. I enjoyed it and it was comforting to see her smiling.''
Julie Clerc, matron at University Hospitals of Leicester agrees, saying, ''surgery can be an extremely daunting time for most people, let alone a child.''
She continued, ''we do everything we can to make the journey from the ward to the theatre as comfortable as possible. We wanted to think of ways that would make the trip more enjoyable for the younger children.''
We think that it is an amazing idea and long may it continue.
