Pregnant mum runs 800m race… but doesn't want her kids to be 'strong like Mom'
This is incredible!
Alysia Montano is five months pregnant with her second child, and rather than take it easy like most of us would, the athlete just ran in the US World Championships 800m trials.
In sweltering heat.
However, this is not the first time the mum has done this.
In fact, three years ago, when she was EIGHT months pregnant with her daughter Linnéa, Alysia participated in the 2014 USA Nationals – and now has something very important to share.
Taking to her Instagram page, the 31-year-old shared a very powerful message that we are sure will resonate with a lot of our mums.
"My mission as a mother, as a daughter, as a sister, as a friend, and as a human is to always fight for good and the empowerment of others," the seven-time USA Champion wrote under a picture of her holding her three-year-old daughter.
"I hope that one day my children can look at the world through a lens filled with kindness, compassion, hope, empowerment and purpose.
"I hope when my children think of me in their pursuits they might see me as an example of strength and not only think 'strong like Mom', but perhaps they may see their abilities and think: 'stronger THAN Mom'."
But that's not all she hass to say.
As an athlete, Alysia is all about health and fitness, especially during pregnancy – but exercising when pregnant is something that many of us women are worried about.
So, in a bid to "inform and empower" others, the Olympian posted a quote she said back in 2014 after her race.
"I know there is a lot of stigma and really, the word is ignorance, behind pregnant women exercising. And the truth is it's good for the mom and the baby."
This woman is an inspiration to us all – and it's no surprise she wore a Wonder Woman top when competing earlier this week.
