Now this is one competition your child's school will WANT to enter

Introducing photography into the classroom is a fantastic way to creatively boost the confidence of students, stimulate conversation and make memories that can be cherished for generations to come.

Photographs document a moment in time and are an extremely useful tool when stimulating memories, friendship and times gone by.

Photography is an art form and is a creative way to learn about colour, texture, composition and storytelling, and the inauguration of Ireland's prestigious National School Photography Awards (INSPA) teaches exactly that.

This year’s theme is titled ‘Making Memories’, and is brought to you by Image Masters Photography – in partnership with Dublin Zoo, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and MummyPages

'Making Memories' challenges teachers and their students in primary level education to utilise the medium of photography to stimulate discussion around the theme of memory/memories.

These can be happy, sad, new or even forgotten ones.

Primary school-days are often the foundation of memories for people as generations go by.

It’s a time of fun, friendships and new experiences.

'Making Memories' asks for teachers to integrate the camera into the school-day and encourage their students to show their experiences from their point of view.

The awards aim to encourage young creatives in primary level education to engage with both digital technology and the creative process to create striking visual images.

They will inspire and ignite passion in students, increase engagement with digital arts within primary level education while at the same time subtly educating students about the importance of the creative process.

The awards are offering a range of fantastic prizes for finalists, winners and their schools, including digital cameras for winners and their schools, framed photographs, certificates of achievement and school photography fundraising days in aid of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

School can get involved by requesting their access codes from the INSPA website – www.inspa.ie – where they will be able to activate their school account and begin uploading entries.

Deadline for entries: Midnight on Friday, 19th January 2018.
