Nine-year-old twin sisters meet for the first time, and it's a truly magical moment
When Jennifer Doering started doing research into her daughter Audrey’s past she had no idea what she was about to discover.
Jennifer and her husband, Tom, adopted Audrey from China nine years ago, and as a surprise for Christmas, the mum-of-four set about trying to locate a copy of her daughter’s finding ad: a posting in a local newspaper circulated when an abandoned child is found.
“I just wanted that piece of history for her.”
It was here that she realised Audrey had a sister: Gracie Rainsberry, who was also adopted by an American family.
Audrey, who lives in Wisconsin, and Gracie of Washington both had severe congenital cardiac anomaly that required surgery, and they parents feel the sisters' separation saved their lives.
“It would have been too much to take on two special needs kids; their separation saved their lives,” the families told ABC News.
Jennifer connected with Gracie’s mum, Nicole, through social media and it was here they realised that the girls were likely to be sisters.
Their hunch was confirmed by Dr Nancy Segal, who did a DNA test and found the girls were twins with 100 percent certainty.
The sisters spoke via Skype and were reunited in a very emotional reunion on Good Morning America, where they were presented with tickets to School of Rock on Broadway and taken to Planet Hollywood.
Absolutely beautiful; the girls are so lucky to have found each other at such a young age.
