NASA responds to nine-year-old's job application... and it's priceless

We have all wondered what they really get up to in NASA headquarters; does it look exactly like an episode of Star Wars?

Or have we been watching waaaay too much TV?

We reckon it's the latter, and it turns out that we're right as NASA's Planetary Science Director, Jim Greene, reveals what a Planetary Protection Officer's role entails.

The reason Jim has been so forthcoming though, is one we wouldn't have imagined in several light years.

Nine-year-old, Jack Davis, had seen the role advertised and pondered the thought he'd be a perfect fit for the role.

Writing a cover letter, Jack sent his application to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, stating the reasons they should hire him, and he makes a pretty compelling argument.

"One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien."

"Also, I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see."

Divulging information such as his love for all things space and his attention to detail in the Marvel Agents of Shield movie, we can't think of any reason why NASA wouldn't hire Jack!

Especially because his last reason makes pretty good sense – he is young so he can learn to think like an alien.

Signing off his letter as 'Guardian of the Galaxy', it didn't take NASA's Science Director long to take note and respond to the aspiring youngsters request.

The director stated: "Our Planetary Protection Officer position is really cool and is very important work."

"It's about protecting Earth from tiny microbes when we bring back samples from the Moon, asteroids and Mars."

The head of NASA even goes on to suggest Jack could have a future in headquarters some day: "We are always looking for bright future scientists and engineers to help us."

"So I hope you will study hard and do well in school. We hope to see you here at NASA one of these days!"

Because we're slightly older than Jack, do you think they would hire us? We love a bit of Marvel, we do…
