Mum’s message about single mothers is something EVERYONE needs to read
Sometimes there can be misconceptions about single mothers which are all too often elaborate and ridiculous.
It is thought that most guys tend to veer in the opposite direction as it would make for a ‘hard’ life.
But it’s simply not true, and this mamma’s post about the guy who had faith in her and her little tot is pure and beautiful.
Mel Watts is an Australian mum-of-three, with baby number four on the way very soon.
But when Mel first met her husband Nolan, she already had her little boy Ayden.
Which led the mum to take to Facebook to share her view: "We aren't damaged goods.”
“Dating a mother can seem daunting. I totally understand that.”
Mel accepts that this isn’t the way things are supposed to go, they’re single and enjoying life, while as a single mum you’re at home watching Disney movies and eating pizza.
But the mum-of-three reinforces that single mums are worth it.
As long as you get used to the idea that: “Sleep-ins are for weekends without the child, nap time is completely acceptable, and kids aren't born toilet trained.”
Admitting many step-dads will get names such as ‘instant dad’ and ‘instant family’ thrown at them, once again Mel states: “But we’re worth it, I promise.”
“If you're willing to love someone who has children then you’ll get double if not more love in return. It can be hard and it can be messy. By all means it can be difficult. But worth it.”
And the reason it is worth it is because that guy knows a strong woman when they see one:
“That woman you're thinking about is loving, she is kind hearted and caring. How do I know this? Because she is a mother.”
“That woman didn't want to be a single mother. But she is, and that means she is strong and adaptable.”
But it doesn’t come without its difficulties: “It may be hard but when a child takes you into their life and loves you it’s worth it. Always worth it.”
“It takes a strong man to date someone with a child. It takes courage and acceptance.”
But we guess it's all worth it when you become a family, and it sounds like this is one big, wonderful, family.
