Mum shares two photographs depicting post-partum depression, and it will blow you away

Kathy DiVincenzo is a mum-of-two who according to Facebook, has the best life.

Her mummy life is a constant appearance of perfection, and for the most part, it is.

But there’s one part of her life that is not always on show; Kathy also suffers from post-partum depression (PPD), OCD and anxiety.

However, mum decided that it’s time to show people things aren’t always how they seem.

Taking to social media in an effort to break the stigma of PPD for mums, Kathy shared:

“It's time to show you what it can really look like, not just the side of me that's ‘Facebook worthy’."

Kathy uploaded two snaps taken by photographer Danielle Fantis depicting both sides of her life as a mum with PPD.

“The truth is, both of these pictures represent my life depending on the day. I would only ever comfortably share one of these realities though and that's the problem.”

Adding: “We need to stop assuming that the postpartum period is always euphoric, because for 1 in 7, it's not.”

Kathy admits that the most exhausting part of having PPD is pretending that she doesn’t have it to the outside world.

The mum says: “I'm afraid you'll think I'm weak, crazy, a terrible mother, or the other million things my mind convinces me of and I know I'm not alone in those thoughts.”

This problem is the main reason why, as a mum, Kathy wanted to show others it’s OK to have this side to your life too.

“In case no one has told you, you're doing an amazing job. You are loved and you are worthy. You're not alone”, added Kathy.

We very much agree with Kathy on this one mums, we’re all in it together.
