Mum shares photo of daughter to raise awareness of an important safety issue
What a brave mum.
11-month-old Madeline Cumiskey fell out of a two-story window and mum Erin is sharing her picture in a bid to prevent it happening to other families.
Maddie, from Texas, had been with her babysitter when she leaned against a window screen and subsequently fell.
The tot landed on the pavement and suffered a fractured skull and bruised liver.
Thankfully, the young girl is said to be "progressing steadily", according to a GoFundMe page set up by her grandmother Maureen.
Erin hopes that by telling Maddie's story more people will be aware of the dangers of window screens, which are designed ot keep bugs out.
"Today her mom and doctors are sharing ALL the information you need to know to keep kids safe," reporter Hannah Davis wrote on Facebook.
"The number one piece of info… don't trust a screen. So many people don't realise how weak they are. Children fall through them every year."
The Children’s Medical Center’s Senior Director of Trauma Services, Lori Vinson, told Scarymommy: "Screens are meant to keep bugs out not to keep kids in."
"If you have to open a window, only open it four inches or less."
Erin is so brave for sharing her daughter's story; and while screens are not as popular here as they are in the US, they are not unheard of.
Maureen set up the fundraising page to help pay for the 11-month-old's medical expenses.
