Mum lets daughter dye her hair following a ‘horrible’ accident, and it's stunning
If my daughter was to ask if she could dye her hair, she would be met with a resounding no.
I haven't dyed my hair in nearly ten years following years of abuse, and the mere thoughts of her wanting to go lighter, brighter or even darker actually worries me.
It's not just the sheer cost (although that does play a part) but the ingredients in some hair colourings would send a shiver down my spine.
Some not all.
And her young, beautiful hair deserves better.
Well, I did think like that before I saw this heartbreaking but beautiful post on the Love What Matters Facebook page.
Mum Rachel Ann Carpenter took to the popular site to share a gorgeous picture of her daughter with bright pink hair.
The girl is happy and smiling.
However, Rachel admits that she didn't immediately let her daughter dye her hair.
And it wasn't until the young girl was involved in a horrific accident at camp that left her with 70 percent burns all over her body did Rachel reconsider.
"This time last year she asked me if she could have pink hair and I said no," the mum explained on the Facebook page.
"A few days later at a camp they were doing a demonstration involving fire and something went wrong and it caught her on fire.
"She had horrible burns over 70% of her body. This time last year we were in the hospital with her not knowing if she was going to live or not."
Quite rightly the mum says that life is too short to say no all the time, so when her daughter asked once again if she could dye her hair, she let her.
"That experience taught me you never know how much time you have left, with anyone. So say yes more often, and don't care if anyone thinks your child with pink hair is ridiculous."
As a mum, I'm guilty of saying no wayyyy too many times. Sometimes it's just easier.
But this post… well, this post made me realise that it is time to say yes.
