Mum highlights the benefits of breastmilk in mind-blowing photograph
Here at MagicMum HQ we've always believed it's a case of each mum to their own when it comes to their choice of breastfeeding or formula.
And to be honest, we don't believe our opinion will ever change; it's whatever is most comfortable for mum and baby.
However, we're also completely mind blown by this snap posted by mum-of-three, Vicky Greene.
Vicky is a mother-of-three and a first year Biosciences student who undertook a project for microbiology research.
Taking samples from a mum who breastfeeds a 15-month-old baby and another from a mum who breastfeeds her three-year-old, Vicky undertook the research to see how beneficial breastmilk can be.
And the results were unbelievable, as Vicky explains: "Here you have nine Petri dishes containing the bacteria M.Luteus. The white spots in the middle are discs soaked in two samples of breastmilk."
"The clear bit around the discs – that's where the proteins in the milk have inhibited the bacteria. It also worked with E.Coli and had a fairly good go at MRSA too."
To break it down, the research showed that breastmilk is full of disease-fighting substances and antibodies.
The outskirts of each dish is filled with the bacteria, while in the centre, where the plate of breast milk was inserted, the bacteria is completely gone, killed off by the breast milk.
Therefore reinforcing the idea that if your baby or toddler contracts a virus and the mother is exposed to the virus, a mother can produce antibodies which are passed over to their babies through the act of breastfeeding.
We are actually stunned, amazing what mums can do for their children – go mums!
