Incredible... 8-year-old breaks world record while on a family holiday in Africa
So what did you do on your family holiday…?
Eight-year-old Roxy Getter was in Africa on holiday with her family when she broke a world record: the youngest female in the world to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
Yup.
The eight-year-old along with her ten-year-old brother Ben, mum, Sarah, and dad, Bobby, conquered the 19,341-foot mountain in Tanzania, and we are in awe of all of them!
The family, from Florida, initially looked into doing a safari but, after a friend's recommendation, decided to climb the mountain instead, as you do, like.
The Gellers had never overnight camped before and spent nearly a week on the mountain, with Ben keeping everyone's spirits up when things got tough.
“When we reached the summit, I was emotional at that point because I really couldn’t believe that they did it as well as they did,” Bobby told Inside Edition.
“I was struggling. Ben just basically walked up. He was chatty and talking. I could barely speak, I could barely move.”
And the most incredible thing?
Both Roxy and Ben have a history of heart issues but were well able to get to the top.
“We weren’t sure if we could do it or not but we all got together as a family and pushed towards it and made it to the top,” Sarah said.
"From that experience, I think we’ve learned a lot of lessons, especially for the kids: Keep going, even when things get hard.”
Wow. Just wow.
The most we've ever come to a hike like that is a Sunday afternoon stroll up the Dublin mountains!
