Here's what happening in Ireland this June... and, trust us, there's LOADS on

Looking for something to do over the June Bank Holiday weekend? Or just on the lookout for ways to occupy the kids, this month?

Well, to make life a lot easier for you, we have compiled a list of some pretty handy events that are totally family-friendly.

1. BloomFringe Festival

When: June Bank Holiday weekend

BloomFringe Festival is an edgy festival of urban greening. It slams onto the streets of Dublin on the June Bank Holiday weekend, popping up luscious gardens and transforming unloved spaces into urban oases. 

A fun and mostly free family event, the festival is celebrating its 4th birthday, and this year’s theme is ‘Play in the Streets’. 

BloomFringe will be in Dublin Castle on June 3rd & Wolfe Tone Square on June 4th with events to suit everyone including: pop up parks, workshops, tours, talks, drop in events, street games and lots more…

2. StreetVelodrome Dublin City

When: Sunday, 11th and Monday, 12th June

Dublin City Council presents StreetVelodrome Dublin City, as part of National Bike Week 2017, on Sunday 11th and Monday 12th June in Smithfield Square. This free two day family-friendly event will include live entertainment, pumping music, kids activities, special guest appearances and great cycle sport entertainment!

3. Body&Soul 2017

When: 23rd to 25th June 

As sponsor of daytime activities at the renowned Woodlands Stage, Bord na Móna will bring OurLand, Powered by Positive Energy, to life in a spectacular setting from noon to early evening each day across the weekend. 

OurLand will feature three action packed areas – Positive Energy, Earth and Air with each hosting an eclectic mix of musicians, artists, illustrators, animators, nature experts, makers and do-ers and photographers who will showcase their work with positive energy sessions, engaging reading workshops and live radio sessions.

4. The Cork Summer Show

When: 17th and 18th June

Every summer for the past 200 years, the Munster Agricultural Society has put on a very special show in Cork. A great family day out and Cork tradition, the Cork Summer Show, sponsored by Cork County Council, takes place on 17th and 18th June at the Showgrounds at Curraheen and  this year it promises to be the biggest and best show yet.

From pig agility courses to the All-Ireland Cook off heats, from pet dog shows to best in breed livestock competitions, vintage motors and high tech farm machinery, live music with great food and craft beers, the Cork Summer Show brings together so much fun in one place that it has to be one of the best days out of the summer in Ireland.

At just €25 euro for a family ticket (booked before June 10th), the Cork Summer Show also represents great value for all the family to enjoy a special day in the countryside, only a few miles from Cork city.

5. Dublinia 

When: 3rd and 17th June 

3rd June – The Medieval Herbalist           

Learn the secrets of herbs, their uses in food preparation, as luck charms, as well as their medicinal purposes. How was garlic used in medieval times and what lucky charms and superstitions did people have? What midwifery skills were needed in the medieval period and what were the trials of childbirth.  All this along with cures for warts and fungal infections, also, the Medieval Herbalist can even help you find your future husband or wife!

17th of June – Medieval Cookery           

Meet medieval mistresses as they prepare and preserve foods from medieval Dublin. Using replica cookware and utensils, authentic recipes will be demonstrated and cooked. Find out what it meant to have a square meal, how important salt was and why you should keep an eye on the bread served to you. Step close and smell all the aromas of Dublin past.

6. Avonmore Super Milk Wild Air Run

Ten larger than life inflatable obstacles spread over 5km, the Avonmore Super Milk Wild Air Run is an experience like no other. Suitable for ages 7+ and those of all fitness levels, the Wild Air Run is all about having fun while you battle your way through the obstacle course, including Europe’s longest slide: the SUPER SCREAM. The event is happening all across Ireland with this month's one taking place in Malahide Castle on June 3rd
