'Good for him': Youth walks 7 hours to get to work, so CEO gifts him his car

The night before Walter Carr was due to start a new job at a moving company, his car broke down.

Desperately,  he tried to find anyone to that could drive him the 20 mile journey to work the next day – but there wasn't anyone who could.

As the 20-year-old had no money, he had no choice – he had to walk the 20 miles from his apartment in Alabama to his new job.

And this is the problem – it would take him an astounding seven hours!

He napped and then began the journey at midnight.

While taking a break halfway, a police officer pulled up next to him.

After Officer Mark Knighten heard the amazing story, he brought Walter some breakfast and drove him the last ten miles.

They arrived their destination, the home of Jenny Lamey, and the officer explained what Walter had done.

Jenny told  The Washington Post that Mark '' said, ‘I’ve got this nice kid in my car. He’s a great kid, he’s been walking all night to get to your house. That’s when the tears started coming. I just started crying.”

She was so moved by this story that she set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise $2,000 for Walter's car repairs and called hsi boss to tell him what had happened.

So the next day, Luke Marklin, the chief executive of Bellhops moving company, gifted a speechless Walter with his own 2014 Ford Escape.

The footage of the surprise gift has been shared thousands of times and Jenny's GoFundMe page has now raised over $60,000.

According to the Good News Network, Walter says that he’s simply happy because “he’s always wanted to inspire people.”

Social media was full of praise for this hard-working young man.

Many people wrote things like, ''there are still good people in this country. My hats off to Walter, and I adore the family that gave that young man the car. Bravo!'' while others said, ''that's some dedication. Good for him.''

One person wrote about how Walter is a rare breed.

''I would love an employee like him. In recent years, there aren't enough employees that dedicated to their job.''

Congratulations Walter  –  you're proof that perseverance pays off.
