How to get kids to do things they don't want to... like clean up
The way kids react when they're asked to pick up their shoes, you'd swear you'd just asked them to clean the toilet.
The screams and protests can be so draining for mums – but don't admit defeat just yet.
With a little bit of manipulation clever word phrasing and some fun games thrown in for good measure, your kids will be like putty in your hands.
1. Just tell them not to do it
You don't need to And they'll probably jump at the chance to do it.
2. Make an adventure out of it
'The shoes are alive and need to be locked up in the cupboard'; 'the only way to get to bed is by walking backwards with their eyes closed' – get it?
3. Give them the option to say no… while making them feel guilty at the same time
"You don't HAVE to eat the dinner I just lovingly made for you…"
4. Give them a choice (just make sure you'll like either answer)
Ask them if they want to watch TV or go outside to play… AFTER they've put away their toys.
5. Don't ask… TELL
Don't ask them if they can put their PJs on, tell them they have to – otherwise you're just giving them an open invitation to say no.
6. Ditch the nagging
Ask once and give them a chance to actually do it; kids are A LOT slower than us and will give up if you keep telling them to do something.
