Getting a caesarean may result in future obesity for your child
Obesity is a worldwide epidemic with rates climbing each year, according to the World Health Organisation.
Science is at it again, and this time a pretty interesting discovery has been made with regards to obesity.
According to a study published by Clinics in Perinatology, babies born by caesarean section are more likely to be obese later in life.
According to this study, which was done in 2011, babies born vaginally achieve contact with the maternal vaginal and intestinal flora, which is "an important source for the infant’s essential bacteria colonisation."
In contrast to this, babies born via C-section are deprived of this environmental bacteria, which can result in some health risks to newborns.
Researchers from Harvard University intend to do further study to determine whether caesarean babies are more likely to become obese.
