From Papa Smurf to Clumsy: here's why Smurfs: The Lost Village is THE movie to watch this Easter

Looking for something to do with the kids while they are off school over Easter? Well, the new movie Smurfs: The Lost Village is definitely one for a rainy day (or for when you need a few hours of quiet time…).

The animated film takes viewers on an adventure through the Forbidden Forest, as Smurfette, Clumsy, Hefty and Brainy try to find the mysterious lost village before Gargamel, the evil wizard, does.

It’s fun, funny and totally kid-friendly, and the following reasons will have you booking your tickets in no time.

1. It’ll take you on a trip down memory lane; remember the animated cartoons from over 20 years ago?

Sure, nothing beats a little nostalgia over the holidays, right?

2. Homeland’s Mandy Patinkin is Papa Smurf… so you can lose yourself in his dreamy voice while the kids lose themselves in the movie

And he has a very soothing voice…

3. It actually explains why Smurfette is the ONLY female Smurf in the village… finally

Did you think it was weird that there was only ever ONE girl in the entire town? Us too!

4. The animation is very impressive and the colours, particularly the blue, really stand out

Which is a good thing, considering that’s one of the most important aspects of the movie: the fact that they are blue.

5. The songs are VERY catchy

And Christopher Lennertz and Shaley Scott’s You Will Always Find Me in Your Heart is actually beautiful.

6. It has laugh out loud moments that will have the kids in stitches, especially when Clumsy is involved

And there are a few jokes in there for the parents as well… “It’s like a workout for my eyeballs”.

7. It’s fun and kid-friendly – and that’s the main thing

The storyline is pretty easy for the kids to follow, which means they won’t get lost watching it – and you won’t have to spend the entire movie trying to explain it to them.

With the kids off for the holidays, Easter is the perfect time to take them to see the movie – and McDonald’s have a very special Smurfs day planned for during the break. Taking place on Thursday, April 13th from 12-6pm, the McDonald’s Family Fun Day will be an afternoon of fun and free activities, including balloon-modelling and face-painting.
