Things every mum still breast feeding her toddler WILL hear

Sure some mums always planned to breast-feed for an extended period; most just roll with the punches, keeping it going for as long as it suits them and their small one.

However, and while you're doing a pretty wonderful thing, if you're still feeding a toddler there are certain smart-ass comments that you can expect from friends and family.

Not all of it is malicious, mind – but most of it is pretty annoying all the same.

Here are five things an extended breast-feeding mum can listen out for (eye-rolling optional)…

1. "You do know your child doesn't NEED to feed now?"

Yes – I do know that. She's on solids and could drink cow's milk. But there are still plenty of nutritional benefits, and besides we – both of us – enjoy our routine and the ritual of feeding. It makes us happy. End of.

2. "Is it not very ANNOYING though?"

If it was annoyed by breast-feeding my child, I wouldn't do it. But I don't find it annoying – I love it, thanks all the same.

3. "Subconsciously do you want him to remain a baby forever?"

I can't wait to see him skip off to school, to grow up, and reach his milestones – that's the whole point of parenting. Breast-feeding a two-and-a-half year old does not mean I want him to be a newborn again, but I sure do appreciate  the Freud-esque insight.

4. "Do you think it's confusing for her?"

No. Wait… what? NOW I'm confused.

5. "But he has TEETH!"

Yes, he does have teeth. He's also old enough to not bite the hand that feeds him, so to speak. Believe me, feeding a newborn in those early weeks is FAR more painful than anything my toddler subjects me too.
