Families are putting wooden boxes in their garden and it is the COOLEST thing ever

With the rate people move houses in this day and age, it's hard to make new friends everywhere you go.

Moreover, it becomes increasingly harder to get to know your neighbours.

Nowadays, there's not much about calling over for a cup of sugar or some milk, instead we have to come up with something more connecting.

Many homes in America are setting up wooden boxes outside their front porches, and we have to say, we're totally jumping on board this gem.

The boxes which litter the streets have a simple little door, making them accessible to your neighbours and children.

From the outset they appear as a cross between a bird house and a letter box – but in fact it is such a fun and interactive way to get to know one another while being educated!

Sounds too good to be true?

But it's not – it is a case of genius. The little houses are filled with books and the scheme is known as Little Free Library

According to Adison Schanie, the owner of the Little Free Library is usually the first to put books in, with neighbours and children allowed to come along, take a book to read, or put in some books they have already finished reading.

The exchange can happen as often as possible, and there's even a little notebook and pen inside where library users can thank people for the books or note their reviews of the books they have read.

Adison shares: "This works for adult's books as well as children's books," as she interviewed her neighbour Lisa about how the library works for her.

"We installed it a month and a half ago […], we put the first books in the library, we asked kids and teachers what books were popular right now."

"The best part is getting to meet our neighbours, I love to read and I love to find new books, but it's really been awesome to get to meet loads of people in the neighbourhood," Lisa told the youngster.

You can buy a box for your front yard, or you can make one yourself and we're not going to lie this idea has got us seriously excited!

How amazing would it be to have a library in your front yard? Is this something you'd like to see?
