'Exciting to see': Watch this amazing rescue of a beached orca whale

An orca whale may have been stranded on the shores of Nueva Atlantis, Argentina but he was soon returned back to his rightful place…the sea.

And it's all thanks to an entire community's efforts.

So how long did it take to get the orca back to safety?

And who was responsible for it?

It was members of the Fundacion Mundo Marino, the Argentine Naval Prefecture and the Civil Defence that saved the day.

It took a whopping 20 hours and an extensive rescue effort to get the sea creature off the beach.

The team spent a cold, windy evening keeping the orca's blowhole out of the water to avoid him drowning.

They needed machinery to help lift the orca back into the water and they had to wait unto the following morning for that.

A video was uploaded to the Mundo Marino Foundation Facebook page.

Ignacio Peña, one of the technicians who was part of the rescue, wrote, "last night the first thing we did was straighten the animal that was stranded on its side to try to reintroduce it. But only today, with the help of the entire community, we were able to pass a stretcher under the orca, lift it and guide it to the sea.''

Florencia Speciale, department head of Marine World said, "it's a mixture of sensations. The panorama was tremendous. She looked so weak and cramped that it seemed impossible to rescue her.

"We saw that each time it became more complicated, but we were all very connected. Being in the water with her and seeing her face offshore was incredible."
