Drinking small amounts of alcohol might actually improve male fertility, research finds

Those men just get all the breaks.

The American Society of Andrology published a study earlier this month about male fertility and the findings were very interesting.

They were as follows: alcohol intake in moderation is found to be linked to positive semen quality.

As women are told to cut their alcohol consumption when they're pregnant, we find this all a bit unfair.

According to Romper, the study concluded that having a few drinks did lead to higher semen volume and sperm concentration, plus total sperm count.

There was a total of 323 male patients, who had the mean age of 39.3 years, that were analysed by the researchers.

According to Wiley Online Library, 30 percent drank one to three units of alcohol a week, 30 percent drank four to seven units a week, 30 percent drank more than eight units a week and 10% were abstainers.

So basically, drinking four to seven units a week is associated to a higher sperm count in addition to semen volume.

Lead author Dr. Elena Ricci, of the Fondazione IRCCS in Italy, also spoke to Science Daily about these surprising findings,

She said, ''as regards low intake, our findings are consistent with other research. In Italy, alcohol consumption is common but usually limited to small quantities, and this applies in particular to men referring to our Infertility Clinic.''

Elena added, "Since the dose makes the poison, they are counselled to limit but not avoid alcohol."

Enjoy those beers guys, because you won't be as soon as the baby arrives!
