Different but beautiful: one mum on why we should see the beauty in ourselves
While it's often easy to see the beauty in others, it can be difficult to see that beauty in ourselves.
And mum-of-six, Krecelle Carter, knows the struggle only too well.
But she recently decided to be kinder to herself, thanks to a revelation she had while out shopping.
As she walked through the crowd of Christmas shoppers, she found herself people watching:
"I noted one woman’s beautiful bright pink hair. And another mans dreadlocks and height. I saw an older woman with curves in all of these beautifully crooked places. And an older man with a nose that was different, interesting; it was if it told a story."
Each person was different, but beautiful in their own way.
But then she caught a glimpse of herself in a window:
"“Too fat” one voice shouted. “To man-ish” another one retorted. “Full of love and pride”; one piped up. “Different but certain” another one said. “BEAUTIFUL”. said the loudest and I cracked a smile."
She continued to say that, she noticed her ability to find beauty in everyone else came as easily to her ability to put herself down:
"My overwhelming need to find the beauty everyone else. And then the ease at which I put myself down."
Even if we find it difficult to be kind to ourselves, she says, it can be a lot easier to be kinder to someone else:
"The next time you find something about someone beautiful tell them. Because despite what we see you never know what they are thinking about themselves."
She hits us with the timely reminder that beauty comes in "all shapes and sizes; it can be found everywhere."
"Make sure when you're appreciating the beauty in others, you make sure to find the beauty in yourself."
We love this, being kind yourself it not a luxury, it's an essential part of life!
