Dad saves all of his pocket change for a very special reason
In 1981, Jim Porterfield's life changed dramatically. After he was involved in a head-on collision with a drunk driver, the father-of-four was left both mentally and physically disabled.
Following the collision, Jim was in a coma for six weeks and was not expected to wake up.
He suffered a frontal lobe injury and was let with short-term memory loss due to fluid on his brain. His right elbow, tibia, fibula and feet bones were shattered.
His is unable to even brush his teeth with his dominant hand after the bones in his elbow fused in place, and frequently falls due to the extensive injuries in his feet.
Described as an incredibly special man by his daughter Krista, Jim goes out of his way to show kindness to others, especially his children.
And his daughter Morgan recently took to Twitter to show just how much of an incredible and selfless guy he is.
As some know my dad is mentally and physically handicapped and so especially now that he’s older he’s unable to work or earn an income but he’s been saving his pocket change for the past month for some reason and I thought nothing of it til I came home from work to this today pic.twitter.com/rdEqu6u8rf

Uploading a photo of a container filled with change, Morgan wrote: "As some know my dad is mentally and physically handicapped and so especially now that he’s older he’s unable to work or earn an income but he’s been saving his pocket change for the past month for some reason and I thought nothing of it til I came home from work to this today."

Following the accident, Jim was forced to quit his job as a manual labourer on a railroad, but was determined to provide for his family and live his life to the fullest. He took up a job as clerk and went on to have four children. The father was made redundant recently, and while the family have been able to secure disability income, he has lost his Medicaid – and they regularly have to deal with staggering medical costs.
The support means so much, my dad deserves the world and if you feel called, anything helps https://t.co/wevsP6W0xL via @gofundme

Morgan set up a GoFundMe page to raise as much money for her dad as possible, and the response has been incredible, raising over €12,000 in just five days.
"I hope this touches some people's hearts and please know how grateful his family is to any of you who feel moved to donate. I was not surprised at all when Morgan posted what a sweet small thing he did for her. It is part of who he is and we are so lucky to have him in our lives. We know this is something he would never ask for himself, but there is no one I know more deserving."
