Bord Gáis Energy Theatre celebrates 15 years of world class entertainment
Today marks a major milestone for Bord Gáis Energy Theatre as Ireland’s iconic home of world-class live entertainment celebrates 15 magical years since first opening its doors to the public on 18 March 2010.
To mark the occasion, a special photocall took place outside the theatre earlier today, featuring General Manager Stephen Faloon and Head of PR and Marketing Claire Whelan, joined by celebration birthday cake and a striking '15' installation.
Since that opening night, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre has welcomed an incredible 7.5 million visitors through its doors. In that time, theatre-goers have munched their way through 5 million bags of popcorn (that’s enough to fill the orchestra pit many times over!), flipped through 6 million show programmes (each one a keepsake of an unforgettable night), clinked 8 million glasses of wine (cheers to all those standing ovations!), and sipped 4 million beers (because great theatre deserves a great toast). And while audiences were soaking up the atmosphere, there have been 3,585 dazzling performances featuring more than 32,000 phenomenal performers lighting up the stage.

Over the past 15 years, the theatre has brought an extraordinary range of Broadway and West End smash hits to Dublin, including Hamilton, The Book of Mormon, SIX, Jersey Boys, Chicago, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, War Horse, Wicked, Disney’s The Lion King, The Commitments, Angela’s Ashes: The Musical, and Les Misérables.
The theatre has also played host to an incredible line-up of A-list stars, including Janet Jackson, Julie Andrews, Ian McKellen, Bono, The Cranberries, Sting, Herbie Hancock, Al Pacino, Tori Amos, Brian Wilson, Chris Hadfield, Plácido Domingo, Bernie Sanders, William Shatner, Tony Bennett, Angela Lansbury, Katherine Jenkins, Joanna Lumley, Joan Baez, Michael Parkinson, Steve Coogan, Robert Plant, Kraftwerk, Cynthia Erivo, and Idina Menzel.
As Ireland’s leading theatrical venue, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre continues to be a cultural beacon, welcoming over half a million theatregoers each year with a thrilling programme of musicals, drama, comedy, dance, opera, and family entertainment.
It all began on 18 March 2010 with the theatre’s opening performance of Swan Lake by The Russian State Ballet, accompanied by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Since then, Swan Lake has become a signature production at the theatre, performed by seven different ballet companies—and even once staged on ice in 2013!
In its 15 years, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre has firmly established itself as Ireland’s home for world-class entertainment, bringing legendary performers and iconic productions to Irish audiences year after year.
