'An incredible scene': Man leaps into action to rescue cop from smoking car

A Chicago man is being hailed as a hero and the reason is amazing.

He immediately jumped into action when he noticed the smoking car of a police officer, who had been driving through the city’s South side when another car made a turn and cut him off.

While the cop didn't hit the other driver, he did crash his car into a tree.

The unidentified man was spotted rushing over to the smoking SUV, opening the door, and pulling the policeman to safety.

It was Kevin Russell that saw the scene unfolding and, touched by this strangers compassionate response, he filmed and posted the video to Facebook.

According to CBS Chicago, this exchange was quiet unsual due to the fact that Chicago’s South side community is often mistrustful of police officers.

As a result of the man's kind act, it has triggered an emotional response from people on social media.

“People think that people of colour and police don’t get along and don’t have a good relationship, but in a situation like this when something incredible happens, you do the right thing,” Kevin said.

“You jump into action. This isn’t a police officer. This is a human being. I was really able to capture the real heart of the South side of Chicago and the citizens in the city of Chicago,” he added.

The police officer was taken to the hospital and it has been said that he should make a full recovery from his injuries.

.

The man took the video spoke to CBS 2’s Audrina Bigos.

“I could tell something incredible was about to happen. I was like ‘Wow! This is an incredible scene right here!’” Kevin told her

The video has since gone viral, with over 100,000 views and we see why – bravo to the heroic stranger and to Kevin for capturing the good deed on video.
