A New York cop helps family buy 'Hamilton' tickets

Here is a feel-good story to brighten up your day.

A family had travelled from Ireland to America to see Hamilton on Broadway in  New York.

And then it almost didn't happen.

However, a police officer called Ricardo Dicandia saved the day.

He was walking around Times Square when a woman, Geraldine McKenna, rushed up to him.

It turned out that she was $20 short for tickets to treat her daughter to 'Hamilton' for her birthday, and about to lose her place in the line.

Officer Dicandia gave her the money straightaway.

He says that, "I happened to have $20 on me, I gave it to her. Just to see her face and the kids was enough for me, and was just glad I was able to help out."

Then he found out that the woman had sent a letter, praising him for his kindness, to the Mayor.

The NYPD posted about it on Facebook where people were quick to comment about his generosity.

One wrote, ''This is what NYPD is really about, you're a special guy.''

While another said, ''Wow great job bro, what a cop for the people. Hero.''

Well done Officer Dicanadia, your twenty bucks gave a family a magical night to remember.
