A college professor has done an AMAZING thing for a single mum

Being a single mum is hard. When it’s all on you, sometimes there is literally no one to mind the children.

But life has to go on and often mums just have to take the kids with them – whether it’s work, or class or, in the case of this lovely story we came across, an exam.

US single mum of two Monica Romero was due to take an exam at the University of Louisville when her babysitter cancelled at the last minute.

With no one to take care of her kids – daughter Mikayla, 5, and son Marcus, 4 – Monica had no choice but to take them along with her.

Sitting them on the sofa outside the exam room she hoped they would sit quietly and wait for her – but as we all know that’s a tall order for a four and five year old!

As you might expect, not long after she went into the room to take the test Mikayla and Marcus started to bang on the door looking for their mum.

Monica went out and tried to quieten them, certain that Dr Daniel Krebs, her professor, was going to ask her to leave.

Understandably 28-year old Monica was devastated. After serving in the army in South Korea she was trying to finish her degree to become an officer.

However she couldn’t have been more wrong – Dr Krebs said “Go take your test. I’ll take care of this” and proceeded to play with the children while Monica completed her exam in comfort!

Monica’s friend, Victoria Henry, took a photograph of the sweet professor with the children and posted it on Facebook saying:

“Witnessed one of the most caring gestures of my college career tonight. As a friend of mine was preparing to take our final exam for military history, her babysitter canceled [sic] on her. I suggested she just bring them and have them play on their tablet in the hall rather than skipping the exam.

"After just a few minutes of the kids playing loudly, the professor went to the hall and simply started to play with them to keep them occupied while their mom took the final. Such a kind and caring act committed when the reaction could have been the complete opposite. My heart is warm tonight. Tis the season.”

“A person like Monica, she’s a non-commissioned officer going to school, she’s a mom of two kids. I mean that’s the kind of thing that’s really impressive,” a modest Dr Krebs told ABC News. “Me handling her kids for 40, 45 minutes, that’s not impressive.”

We have took such heart from this story of understanding and compassion and we hope all you single mums know you have our deep respect for doing such a fantastic job bringing up your little ones alone.
