5 spooky things the kids can watch on Netflix this weekend
It's a long weekend, praise be! And because it's almost Halloween, we know the kids are excited about all the spooky festivities; why not get them in a ghoulish mood (though, hopefully not literally!) with some delightfully scary programmes on Netflix? Here are five fiendish ones they will love:
Super Monsters Save Halloween
The super Monsters use their powers to get their neighbours in the Halloween spirit, then help a nervous friend see there’s nothing to be afraid of.
Ghostbusters: Answer The Call
Paranormal researcher Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) and physicist Erin Gilbert are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann for help. Also joining the team is Patty Tolan, a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out. Armed with proton packs and plenty of attitude, the four women prepare for an epic battle as more than 1,000 mischievous ghouls descend on Times Square.
Monster House
No adults believe three youths' (Mitchel Musso, Spencer Locke, Sam Lerner) assertion that a neighbouring residence is a living creature that means them harm. With Halloween approaching, the trio must find a way to destroy the structure before innocent trick-or-treaters meet ghastly ends.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
This series follows the tragic tale of three orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire — who are investigating their parents' mysterious death. The siblings are saddled with an evil guardian named Count Olaf (portrayed by award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris), who will do whatever it takes to get his hands on the Baudelaire's inheritance. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling devious plans and disguises. The series is based on the best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler).
Matilda
This film adaptation of a Roald Dahl classic tells the story of Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson), a gifted girl forced to put up with a crude, distant father (Danny DeVito) and mother (Rhea Perlman). Worse, Agatha Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), the evil principal at Matilda's school, is a terrifyingly strict bully. However, when Matilda realises she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to defend her friends from Trunchbull's wrath and fight back against her unkind parents.
