17 POWERFUL ways to show gratitude
As we approach a new year it got us thinking about what we’re thankful for – and more specifically, showing gratitude to the people in our lives for all they do for us. As William Arthur Ward said, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”
We want to show the people in our lives just how grateful we are to them – our friends, our family, our partners, our children, even strangers!
So how do we do that? It's easier than you might think! Here are some lovely ways we can show our appreciation:
1. Stick post-it notes around the house with sweet and heartfelt messages.
2. Write a poem to your hubby or partner – even if it’s a silly one – scratch that, especially if it’s a funny one!
3. Frame a favourite memory of you and your friend. She’ll be so touched.
4. Make a certificate! A prestigious looking document especially for a Best Mum / Best Daughter / Best Dad / Best Friend will make their day. You can customise free certificates here.
5. Hug often and tightly.
6. Warmly thank people working in retail and hospitality.
7. Send a bunch of flowers to someone just ‘cos.
8. Make an anonymous donation – whatever you can afford – to a local charity.
9. Spontaneously call your mum or dad or a special aunt and tell them you love them.
10. Send texts to each of your friends telling them why they are so important to you.
11. Post a book to someone you know will love it.
12. Smile. You never know what people are going through.
13. Give the gift of your time. It’s the most precious thing you have.
14. Pay someone a heartfelt, meaningful compliment. It will make them feel incredible and when they feel low they’ll pull it from their ‘happy bank’ to help them feel better.
15. If the waiting staff go above and beyond for you, tell them – and if you can, leave a generous tip.
16. Offer to do a task for them you know they hate.
17. Encourage loved ones to go after their goals. Tell them you’ll be there to support them on their journey.
What do you think of our suggestions mums? What way will you be showing appreciation this coming year? We'd love to hear from you!
