13-year-old goes missing, when mum calls police she gets a massive shock
In the lead up to Christmas, money was tight for the Reed family.
From Oklahoma, single mum-of-four, Sophia Reed, had paid a deposit on a new flat for herself and the children. Meaning that they had very little, to no, money left over for Christmas presents.
As if that wasn't worrying enough, one day her 13-year-old son Diauris, didn't return home when he was supposed to.
Frantic, Sophia called the police to report her son missing.
When police picked the boy up, they did not expect the reason to why he was away from home.
He had been out collecting recyclable cans, to return for money, so that he and his siblings would be able to buy their mother a Christmas present.
The police officer that found him was so touched by his story, that the entire police department raised over $800 for the family. They also supplied them with toys, gifts and housewarming presents.
"They caught us that the right time," Sophia Reed told local media. "And we are so blessed and greateful."
Good thing his surprise didn't work out after all!
